Mission Viejo making upgrades to
Casta del Sol, changing its name

A lot of changes are happening at Casta del Sol Golf Course in Mission Viejo.
Soon, even the name will change.
The city of Mission Viejo purchased the golf course from American Golf Corporation in November for a reported $13 million, and has been busy sprucing up the property ever since.
It has also been soliciting ideas for a name change through a contest, and more than 1,000 submissions were made by the June 30 deadline. That list has been reduced to 20, and the city’s Community Services Commission will narrow it to five in August. The City Council is expected to pick the winning name and runner-up in September.
In the meantime, the city has been busy making improvements throughout the course and clubhouse, such as painting the inside and outside of the facility, putting in new flooring, repaving the parking lot and improving the lighting, and enhancing the patio area with new outdoor furniture.
“We’ve just been fixing things that have been neglected for a long time,” said General Manager Natalie Bernal, adding that the course has a new fleet of 70 golf carts set to arrive in September.
The city has also been working with local restaurants to provide food for golfers while it searches for an executive chef. After the name of the course is selected, the city plans to relaunch the golf course’s website with the new title and branding.
