The LPGA’s Kia Classic returns to AviaraThe stage is set at Aviara Golf Club as the Kia Classic returns to the Carlsbad course March 25-28. Nasa Hataoka will look to defend her 2019 Kia Classic title, which was her third victory on the LPGA Tour. The then 20-year-old Japanese player closed out the tournament with a 5-under 67 for a three-stroke victory over playing partner Inbee Park, top-ranked Sung Hyun Park, Jin Young Ko, Azahara Munoz and Danielle Kang. With the 2020 Kia Classic cancelled due to Covid-19, this year’s tournament marks the eighth time in the last nine years that Aviara has hosted the event. Due to the pandemic, however, spectators will not permitted on site. You can follow the tournament action, though, through Golf Channel’s broadcast and streaming coverage. A field of 144 players will compete at Aviara, the only coastal California coast course designed by Arnold Palmer. In addition to the defending champion, the field includes the top three golfers on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings: Jin Young Ko of Korea, Sei Young Kim of Korea, and Nelly Korda of the United States. Named one of the top courses in California by Golfweek in 2020, Aviara Golf Club is part of Park Hyatt Aviara, a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond resort, which reopened in October following a more than $50 million transformation that includes enhanced guest rooms and suites, new restaurant and bar concepts, 200,000 square feet of upgraded indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces, and a dramatic redesign to the resort’s striking lobby entrance.
