Mission Viejo picks Oso Creek Golf Course as name for its municipal trackCasta Del Sol Golf Course in South Orange County has a new name. The Mission Viejo track, which has been around since 1970 and was purchased by the city last year, is now officially Oso Creek Golf Course. "I think it’s a great name and it is just in time for a fresh beginning for this hidden gem of a golf course,” said General Manager Natalie Bernal. Mission Viejo held a naming contest for the course and received more than 1,000 entries by the June 30 deadline. The list was narrowed to five and the city council on September 8 approved the winning name, which was submitted by resident Don Tayenaka. The other finalists and names considered included The Links at Mission Viejo by Tami Clingan, Oso Viejo Country Club by Amy Jennings, The Greens at Mission Viejo by Robert Way, Sr., and Mission Viejo Golf Club by Aarif Mughal. Since purchasing the property from American Golf Corporation, the city has been busy improving the look and feel of the property, clearing out slopes, painting the clubhouse, and remodeling the patio with new furniture, fire pits and live music. “And fans!” Bernal added. In addition, a new fleet of carts is on the way, the search is on for a new executive chef, and upcoming irrigation work will further improve conditions at the golf course, which is a 3,760-yard par 60 (61 for women) designed by Ted Robinson that features all par 3s and 4s.
