ANA Inspiration takes place in Rancho Mirage September 10-13 without fansThe 2020 ANA Inspiration, originally scheduled for March, will take place September 10-13 at Mission Hills Country Club -- sans golf fans. The storied women’s major championship, founded in 1972 with the late entertainer Dinah Shore's name attached, became a major in 1983. It holds the distinction of being the second oldest golf tournament continuously held at the same course. Some of women’s golf’s greatest champions have won titles at the ANA Inspiration, formerly the Kraft Nabisco Championship, including Amy Alcott, Julie Inkster, Dottie Pepper, Betsy King, and Annika Sorenstam. One of the beloved traditions of the tournament has been the champion’s leap into Poppie’s Pond located adjacent to the 18th green after securing the title. Not having fans at this week’s event was a tough decision to make, according to Tournament Manager Alyssa Randolph, given the role fans play in making the Ana Inspiration a success. “Their health and safety was front of mind as we reluctantly reached this conclusion,” Randolph said. “It is very comforting that we will be back at Mission Hills Country Club soon to celebrate the tournament’s very special 50th anniversary next March by which time we might hope to be in a position to be able to welcome back all our loyal fans.” Coverage of the event will be available on Golf Channel and Sky Sports, with enhanced content accessible on social @ANAinspiration and the tournament website ANAinspiration.com.
