Fall has seen a flood of fresh, high-tech equipment enter the game

This fall has been a frenzied time for the unveiling of new golf equipment. Fresh metal woods, irons and wedges have been released at a fast and furious pace, and with Titleist readying the launch of new TSi drivers and fairways, there will be more treats in store before Halloween is over.

So to keep you up to date on the latest gear for your game, here’s a look at the goods the equipment gods have created this season:

​Going the distance

Callaway Golf's Big Bertha B21 line of clubs are built to hit the ball farther

Make way on the runway – Callaway Golf’s Big Bertha B21s have landed. Featuring a family that includes a driver, fairways, hybrids, irons, and combo sets, the B21s bring to the table premium technologies and legendary Big Bertha design features. The driver is the first at Callaway Golf to combine high launch, low spin, and a draw bias so golfers can reduce slicing and hit the ball straighter and longer off the tee.

In the irons, Callaway has incorporated its A.I.-designed Flash Face Cup, also a first, to create high ball speeds and more robust spin off each club. The fairways and hybrids are Callaway’s easiest to launch yet, and feature larger heads that, like the driver, are offset for more distance and control.

​Victory formation

New line of JPX irons aim to continue Mizuno’s winning ways

It will be hard to improve on the success of previous generations of Mizuno’s JPX line of irons. After all, PGA Tour star Brooks Koepka, without an equipment contract, used either the JPX 900 Tour or the 919 Tour models to win his four major championships, among a host of other victories by him and others on Tour.

​Coincidentally, Mizuno has unveiled four new sets of JPX irons this fall – the 921 Tour, the 921 Forged, the 921 Hot Metal, and the 921 Hot Metal Pro. The irons offer different benefits based on a player’s game, but the Tour and Forged models feature more compact heads for a players-style iron, while the Hot Metal and Hot Metal Pro offer longer head lengths to boost MOI from the 8 iron down.

​Back in black

T-series irons and SM8 wedges feature sleek, ebony-colored finish

Black is back for Titleist this fall. The equipment manufacturer released the T100•S and the T200 irons in versions with a sleek, high-polish black PVD coating that is desired by its Tour players.

​Combined with black True Temper Onyx shafts and Golf Pride grips, the clubs take on a Darth Vader-like appearance built for another galaxy. The T100•S boasts Tour-level shaping and 2 degrees of stronger loft than the T100s to create more distance, while the T200 features a forged face and the company’s Max impact technology.

Meanwhile, the SM8 LE Vokey wedge is available for a limited time in an all-black set up with six different grinds and a progressive center of gravity that produces more accurate and forgiving shots.

​Tiger’s touch

TaylorMade MG2 TW wedges are the result of Woods’ lifetime of work

When Tiger Woods was a kid, he used to hand grind the sole of his wedges to make sure they were just right. If he could do that for you, this is what you would have in your bag: the new TaylorMade MG2 TW grind wedge.

​Available in 56- and 60-degree lofts, the wedges are the result of years of Woods testing, tinkering and competing, and putting his knowledge to use to provide optimal bounce. A unique groove design also helps provide more spin on the ball around the green.

​Small wonders

TaylorMade Golf’s P770 irons pack more punch in a compact design

TaylorMade Golf is packing more punch in a smaller package with the P770 irons. Geared toward more experienced players, the P770 follows in the popular footsteps of the P790, which continues to be the No. 1 players distance iron in its category.

The new irons offer the same great distance and performance, but in a more compact design. There’s no secret to creating a superior set of irons such as the P770s, according to Matt Bovee, Senior Manager of Product Creation at TaylorMade.

​“You’ve got to create an iron with as much performance in it as possible, with great sound and feel  that looks visually stunning, to where any level of player would be proud to have it in their bag,” he said.

​Beyond better

A major rebuild leads to the emergence of Cleveland Golf’s RTX ZipCore wedge

To build an even better wedge than its RTX, Cleveland Golf ripped the club to its core. The result is the RTX ZipCore wedge. While it may look familiar with the classic, traditional appearance that Cleveland wedges are known for, the ZipCore wedge is radically different.

​Heavy steel has been replaced in the club head with a lightweight core in order to unlock design changes that improve MOI and reposition the CG so more shots hit the sweet spot. The club also features  three sole grinds and additional grooves that help create more spin and consistency around the green.

Full of forgiveness

The Mack Daddy CB wedge can help you save shots even when you're not perfect

​New to the family

Big Bertha REVA brand helps women get more distance from tee to green

Callaway Golf has busted out a new line of clubs just for women – the all-new Big Bertha REVA. Designed to create more distance, the family of clubs includes a driver, fairways, hybrids and irons that utilize some of the same successful ingredients found in the company’s men’s clubs, such as Callaway’s AI-designed Flash Face technology that helps create faster ball speeds across a more expansive area of the club face.

​The driver, fairway and hybrids also incorporate Callaway’s Jailbreak technology, two bars that connect the crown and sole to increase stiffness and promote more speed. Callaway has also increased the offset in the clubs to help reduce slicing – and to add distance and accuracy.
