Custom club fitting ensures you’re playing the right clubs for your swingIf you want to play your best golf and maximize your enjoyment on the course, one good way is to start with a custom club fitting. Fortunately, Roger Dunn Golf Shops and The Golf Mart locations throughout SoCal offer the service free of charge. “You have the ability to walk into the store, get fitted, and a lot of times leave with a club fitted to your swing the same day,” explained Erich Mumford, a Regional Manager for Worldwide Golf Shops, parent company of the two retail chains. “If you go back 10 years, most customization had to be done at the factory, and even then, the customization, particularly with woods, was very limited. Today, you can tune the loft, lie and center of gravity location on most drivers and many fairway metals to a player’s swing in the store, and there are a variety of plug-and-play shaft options to further tune it in.” The time invested is minor in comparison to the potential benefits to your game. Mumford said the custom-fitting process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour for a driver and 1-2 hours for irons. Golfers first provide information about their current clubs, their handicap, and what areas of their game they are most hoping to improve. From there, a certified club fitter will take measurements and log data on a launch monitor as the customer strikes balls in a hitting bay. Roger Dunn Golf Shops and The Golf Mart use Foresight GC-2 or GC-quad launch monitors in most of its stores to give golfers of all levels the most complete picture of their swing to help build their clubs. “We start by determining what club or type of clubs the golfer would benefit from the most, then fit for the optimal length and lie,” Mumford explained. “From there we determine which shafts would most benefit the golfer to optimize ball flight and consistency, and then choose grip type and size. We let the player’s ball contact and launch monitor results tell us where to go from there. We’re looking to maximize distance with a controllable ball flight for both direction and spin, and control around the greens. A lot of times, feel comes into play as well.” While customers will typically get their new clubs in their hands within 10-14 days, in certain situations they can have them in their bags the same day. “Custom fitting really should be part of the club-buying experience,” Mumford said. “Golf clubs are not inexpensive these days, and we want to make sure our customers are getting the most for their money. We also stand behind all our products and offer a 90-day satisfaction guarantee, because we want to make sure every customer is happy with their purchase.” YOU MAY ALSO LIKE
