Chris Evans captures second
​Southern California Open title

Chris Evans has done it again.

The Bermuda Dunes resident won the Southern California Open September 1-3 for the second time in three years with a three-shot victory over Riley Elmes of Lake Oswego, Oregon. He also won the tournament in 2018.

​Evans, who has competed on the PGA Latinoamereica and PGA Europro tours, went wire-to-wire to claim the title and take home the $14,000 winner’s check, shooting 19-under par over 54 holes with rounds of 64, 64 and 69.

Another big name at the top of the leaderboard was that of Sahith Theegala, the former Pepperdine University star and three-time NCAA All-American who has recently received sponsor exemptions into PGA Tour events. He finished tied for third place at 14 under.

In addition, Nick Cantlay, the younger brother of former UCLA star and PGA Tour player Patrick Cantlay tied for 10th place at 12 under, and two-time champion Michael Block, the PGA Head Professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, finished tied for 16th at 11 under.

The first and third rounds of the tournament were played on the Players Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort, while second-round competition took place on The Firecliff course at Desert Willow Golf Resort.
